Topic

Numerical simulation of energy input by infrared during paint drying of components in different arrangements using the example of bumpers.

Job description

Continuously operated paint drying tunnels based on convection are the industry standard in the automotive sector. These are process-safe and require little control and planning effort. Due to the higher energy input, infrared paint drying enables shorter drying times, shorter system lengths and thus potentially higher throughputs. However, problems can arise due to shading of individual areas of the painted surfaces. For this reason, different variants of the arrangement of bumpers on the batch carrier are to be investigated.

Within the scope of this work, a numerical model for investigating the energy input into the components with different variants of arrangement and number of components on the component carrier.

Main focus:

  • Market research on common component carrier concepts
  • Development of the numerical model
  • Validation of different radiation models through practical tests
  • Evaluation of the simulation results
